CANCELLED: ASH VS. EVIL DEAD

After next Sunday April 29th, Ash vs. Evil Dead will be no more, and I, for one, and very upset about this.  Starz announced that are not renewing the show for a Season 4.  To this I say, I will obviously be cancelling my subscription to Starz. Who actually subscribe to Starz in the first place?  Deadites are happy to see the end of the show, but screwheads, like myself, on the other hand are not too pleased.

My experience with Evil Dead is rather new.  It all started on a weekend in January.  I was a Saturday in January and I had nothing going on.  Now, recently I haven’t been a person to just randomly jump into a TV show, but Ash vs Evil Dead drew me in.  I watched the first episode and I was hooked and then my brother joined me and we killed the 20 episodes on Netflix that weekend.  I then knew I needed to watch the movies.  That week, when I was on lunch at work, I hit up FYE and Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.  Evil Dead 2 is definitely my favorite because that is the movie where you see Ash transform into the Ashley J Williams that we know today.  Army of Darkness is great because theres where you get Ash Williams in full effect.  Its been a real exciting (albeit short) ride for me over these last few months.

Bruce Campbell encapsulates the role of Ash and kind of like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, he was literally born to play the unorganized, dopey antihero.  He displayed that he is fearless in the face of evil and does things that in the eyes are most definitely illegal, but does them to save humanity and somehow has been able to skip the law time and time again despite very publicly slashing up bodies and even having a baby in his trunk (it looked bad, but the baby was a demon).  Bruce Campbell has said that if this is the last season he is done playing Ash.  I really hope this is not the case, but he is nearing 60 and all the stunts that Sam Raimi had him do, I really don’t blame him. I am definitely going to have to get into Bruce Campbell’s other work, but he definitely will always be Ash Williams to me.

Dana Delorenzo and Ray Santiago really were the best two people to be Ash’s partners in saving the world from Deadites and trying to defeat evil.  Delorenzo’s character Kelly was a badass the entire series who never put up with anyones shit and was willing to fight evil in hand to hand combat.  Her solo fight with Ruby, while being one of her dumber moves, provided some awesome and very gory action. Ray Santiago’s character Pablo literally had Ash’s back starting before the show even started.  He helped facilitate things for Ash and achieved things himself, like becoming Brujo Especial.  I’m very curious to see what the series finale has in store for Pablo and Kelly, but I’m expecting the full realization of their characters.

Lastly, Lucy Lawless was so great that I loved her and then I hated her, then I loved her and hated her all over again.  Her character of Ruby is the series antagonist and such a menace.  She definitely had some of the goriest scenes of the whole series, but I loved her character all the least.

It’s late but I really wanted to get this off my chest.  Shout out to Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, Robert Tapert and everyone else involved in this franchise!  Theres no way this is the end.  HAIL TO THE KING BABY!
