What a weird and pretty cool digital weekend. My IG got piped up by the great people from the Frank Ocean subreddit. Also I think I may have even the first person who got the Endless on VHS. I didn’t notice any changes, but I really think it brought a whole other aesthetic to the visual album.
But I figured with all that happened this weekend, I would dedicate a post to Frank Ocean. I’ve been a big fan since I first hear him on Tyler’s song HER, at least I think, may have been even soon than that too be honest. His music has gotten me through so much, heartache, the loss of a friend, and even with my own self esteem. Starting with one of his most underrated songs Lost. I was really into this girl, things went south, and I wasn’t feeling so good about myself.
“Now you’re lost
Lost in the heat of it all
Girl you know you’re lost
Lost in the thrill of it all”
I don’t know what these lyrics resonated but they did. I guess at the time she wasn’t seeing me for what I was putting out there. I don’t know, now this seems rather foolish on my end, but it helped me cope.
When Blonde dropped I was elated. The first new album from Frank in 4 years!!! The first song off the album was Nikes. At this point my friends and I were having fun, drinking, living fast, going on adventures.
“We’ll let you guys prophesy
We gon’ see the future first
Living so the last night feels like a past life”
Then a little over a month later, I lost a friend. This rocked my world and drastically changed a lost of things for all of us. I would listen to White Ferrari and that would (and still does) move me to tears.
“Bad luck to talk on these rides
Mine on the road
Your dilated eyes watch the clouds float
Had a good time”
This as well helped me cope with everything. Now, if we’re going to get technical, yes Endless did drop before, but now with the release of the Vinyl and CD and DVD upon us, I’ve been listening to it a lot. My favorite lyric comes from U-N-I-T-Y.
“I never let a random motherfucker shoot the B-roll
I never ask advice from him ’cause what could he know?
Never fuck someone you wouldn’t wanna be though”
I love Frank Ocean because even in a world where everything is accessed immediately, he keeps us on the edge of our seats waiting to see what he’s going to do next. I love how we all tune into blonded radio and wait to see if he is going to give us a new song or possibly a new mix of Endless. I feel forever indebted to Frank for giving me the soundtrack for my life.
Frank, I hope you somehow come across this blog. Thank you for everything.
